As creative director at Formation PR & Brand, Derek brings an artistic perspective and an openness to unconventional, innovative methods. He is adept at transforming abstract ideas into compelling concepts and contributes to every stage of the creative process — from discovery and strategy buildout to design execution. Working closely with Formation’s lead strategists and team members, Derek translates big-picture ideas into intentional, impactful designs that bring client projects to life.
Derek holds an M.F.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University, with work exhibited and screened nationally and internationally. His professional background spans roles as a professor of art and design, art director for an arts magazine, and marketing leader for a global architecture firm, along with extensive freelance experience for marketing and advertising agencies.
Outside of work, he enjoys mountain biking, building stuff in the shop and acting as chef with the accompaniment of an awesome French wine.
